How to Know You are Going to Heaven
"These things have I written unto you that believe on the name of
the Son of God; that ye may know that ye have eternal life . . ."
1 John 5:13
|
1st: You must agree with God's Word that you are a sinner and your own righteousness isn't sufficient take you to heaven. |
"For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God." Romans 3:23 2nd: You must agree with God's Word that as a sinner you owe a penalty.
From the criminal to the Pope, we all are dirty rotten sinners.
"As it is written, there is none righteous, no, not one." Romans 3:10
Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to his mercy he saved us . . . That being justified by his grace, we should be made heirs according to the hope of eternal life. Tit.3:5a,7
"For the wages (penalty) of sin is death . . ." Romans 6:23
This death is described in the Bible as the second death. The end result is separation from God into the Lake of Fire:
"And death and hell were cast into the lake of fire. This is the second death. And whosoever was not found written in the book of life was cast into the lake of fire." Revelation 20:14,15
If we pay what we owe as sinners, we must spend an eternity in the lake of fire.
|
3rd: You must agree with God's Word that Jesus Christ has already paid our sin penalty when He died on the cross for us all. |
"But God commendeth (proved) his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us." Romans 5:8
. . . how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures; 1Corinthians 15:3
"For Christ also hath once suffered for sins, the just for the unjust, that he might bring us to God . . ." :1 Peter 3:18
And that he died for all, that they which live should not henceforth live unto themselves, but unto him which died for them, and rose again. 2 Corinthians 5:15
|
4th: Know that eternal life is a free gift that you can only receive by repenting (turning from your sins) and believing in Jesus Christ. Know that your works will never save you. |
|
The word "believe" means more than to believe He is God. |
Why do you wait, dear brother,
O why do you tarry so long?
Your Savior is waiting to give you
a place in His sanctified throng.
What do you hope, dear brother,
to gain by further delay?
There's no one to save you but Jesus,
There's no other way but his way.
Do you not feel, dear brother,
The harvest is passing away;
Your Savior is longing to bless you,
There's danger and death in delay.
Why not? Why not?
Why not come to Him now?
Why not, why not?
Why not come to Him now?
If you'll include your name and address we'll be happy to send you some free material to help you grow in Christ even faster. You may also call 334-793-3080.
Don't be ashamed of Christ or His Gospel. Paul set the example for us: "For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to everyone that believeth" (Romans 1:16). Jesus was not ashamed of you on the cross; do not be ashamed of Jesus here on this earth. Publicly profess Christ wherever you go and whom every your with.
Next, you should search the phone directory for an independent Baptist Church where they believe in preaching from the good old King James Version Bible. That's what we believe and use here at our church. Call up that pastor and ask him if that's what he believes. Also, tell him what happen to you and I'm sure he'll be happy to discuss and pray with you over this decision. You cannot be the Christian you ought to be and want to be without attending God's house faithfully. The Bible plainly says, "Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as the manner of some is; but exhorting one another: and so much the more, as ye see the day approaching" (Hebrews 10:25).
The church is the place where you are spiritually fed, where you can fellowship with other Christians, and through which you can best serve God with other Christians and use your gifts and talents for God.
Next, you should be baptized. The word "baptism" comes directly from the Greek language in which our New Testament was written. It comes from the word "baptizo" which means "to dip, submerge or to immerse." There is another word in the Greek that means to "sprinkle". However, each time we see someone baptized after they are saved in the New Testament, only the word "baptizo" is used.
Is this important? Yes! Because we want to do everything the Bible way. Also, it is only by this mode of baptism can we show forth the picture of Christ death, burial, and resurrection and our willingness to want to be just like Christ.
It is very important to understand that one should be baptized after his/her salvation and not before. This why we refer to baptism around here as "Believer's Baptism".
Finally, Jesus taught that the Word of God is the, "Daily Bread" or food for the soul.
Jesus said, "Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God" (Matthew 4:4). Peter wrote, "As newborn babes, desire the sincere milk of the word, that ye may grow thereby" (1 Peter 2:2). I like what one old time preacher said, "No Bible ~ No Breakfast).
To be the mature Christian God wants you to be, it is absolutely essential that daily Bible reading and Bible study become a part of you life. We grow stronger as we study our Bible. We gain spiritual knowledge, wisdom and strength.

Now What?
If you have prayed and asked the Lord to forgive you and be your Savior, you are saved forever. Here are a few steps you should take in your Christian growth:
One of the first steps to take in your Christian growth is to make public your faith in Christ. Confession of your personal faith in the Lord Jesus is one step in acknowledging the Lord as your Savior. "For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation" (Romans 10:10). Jesus said, "Whosoever therefore shall confess me before men, him will I confess before my Father which is in heaven" (Matthew 10:32).
You should immediately tell your friends, family and love ones of your salvation.
